Each year in October the Brisbane open house event unlocks our city to celebrate our Brisbane's rich architectural diversity. This year my talented friend Peter Rudledge (aka Mr_Smudge featured in TypographJournal Volume02) created a series of outstanding illustrations for the event that shine a spotlight on Brisbane's built icons.

This year, Brisbane Open House will feature about 90 buildings and structures . Visitors will enjoy learning more about the buildings thanks to a number of renowned Brisbane architects and volunteers who will provide special guided tours. From historic landmarks and sustainable skyscrapers, to private homes and grand public spaces, the Brisbane Open House event gives you rare access and insights into the extraordinary architecture that defines Brisbane.

I have been excitedly collaborating with two local Artists (Architects and friends) on a new book to coincide with the Open House celebrations... Since the beginning of recorded history drawing has formed the basis of observation and understanding of our world. This book records Brisbane through the eyes of two admirers of the city - Mark Fuller and Szczepan Urbanowicz. And Features 68 sketches that take the reader on a meandering journey from Brisbane's inner western suburbs along our serpentine river north east toward the Airport. As we weave along the artists trail we see the visual language, scale and materiality of our city shift. A narrative of our built and natural environment translated into ink.

I encourage those of you who are local to come along to the Open House events and discover Brisbane's diverse architecture and heritage treasures on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October. And to support the work of our talented local artists Peter Rudledge, Mark Fuller and Szczepan Urbanowicz.
