Those of you who subscribe to my monthly typomusing newsletter will have heard me mention my letterpress crush on Uk printers Typoretum previously!
Established since 2008, Typoretum is a busy, family run, contemporary letterpress design & printing studio offering a wide variety of services. And they are doing consistently outstanding work. Utilising traditional craft skills and antique & vintage printing presses, they provide a comprehensive letterpress printing and design service.
Typoretum has just undergone a rebrand with vibrant colours and playful typography printed onto pale grey papers. The Lewis Blackboard type (designed by Alexandre Saumier Demers) used in the identity was a digital typeface - selected to represent the three-dimensionality of letterpress type.
The new branding is excellent and I was really excited to read that as well as the graphic metal plates Typoretum made a number of prototype sorts from laser-cut 4mm plywood bonded to a solid hardwood base and are aiming to manufacture two full founts of Lewis Blackboard in 12-Line (144pt) wood type. Its brilliant to see digital typefaces being produced in these traditional mediums! #longliveprint
