I regularly binge on CreativeMorning videos! Until now - that has been the only way Queenslander could access the fantastic morning lecture format. Some of my favorutie designers and type geeks including Jess Hische, Sarah Hyndman, James Victore, Gemma O'Brien, Liron Lavi Turkenich, Yves Peters and many more have given up their mornings to riff on a monthly theme to an enthusiastic and bunch of local creatives over breakfast.
CreativeMornings began in New York in 2008 out of a desire for an ongoing, accessible event for New York’s creative community. The concept was simple: breakfast and a short talk one Friday morning a month. Every event would be free of charge and open to anyone in the local community.
Today, attendees gather in 137 cities around the world to enjoy fresh coffee and friendly people. With generous help from local and global support partners, volunteer hosts and their team members organize local chapters that not only celebrate a city’s creative talent, but also promote an open space to connect like-minded individuals.
I meet with 'morning person' chapter host Jacinta Conza a couple of weeks ago for a 7am miss bliss smoothie to chat about the fantastic global initative and what it means for our local community. “There is no shortage of creativity in Brisbane – but what we are certainly lacking
is a hub for our community to gather and network regularly. I saw an opportunity for CreativeMornings to act as a home for all creative types, where we are able to connect our ideas and insights, share our thought starters, and spark epic collaborations,” says Jacinta.
Once registered, guests are greeted with complimentary coffee and a small breakfast and given time to mingle and network. A local creative will tell their story for 20-30 minutes based on the global theme for the month. The audience will be given a 10-minute window for Q&A with the speaker before the conclusion of the event.
The Brisbane debut event will be held on the morning of Friday the 29th of April and will focus on the theme of ‘Risk’, exploring entrepreneurship, out-of-the-box thinking and taking chances in an age of uncertainty. Everyone is creative and everyone is welcome. Each event encourages creatives from all walks of life to attend. CreativeMornings Brisbane aims to gain the attention of audiences from the wider Queensland state; not just Brisbane City itself. The event is both valuable for students starting out as well as seasoned professionals in the industry – both client and creative services alike.
The registrations for each event open at 11am on the Monday prior to the event. The registration for the debut event on April 29th, will go live on the 25th of April. Registration is completely free but relies on securing a place, as seats are limited, with varying capacity.
