When someone you look up to takes an interest in your work it is a pretty amazing feeling! So I was thrilled when Stuart Tolley (creative director of TRANSMISSION and author of Collectors Edition) reached out to request information about TypographJournal. And it was with great pride I recently received a copy of Stuart's latest publication MIN: The New Simplicity in Graphic Design. Which profiles volume 01 of the journal in exceptionally good company!
As the name suggests MIN: curates an extensive selection of contemporary minimalist graphic design. Divided into three sections: Reduction, Production and Geometry, the 288-page publication the document is jam packed with inspirational examples which were each photographed exclusively for the book on tonal grey backgrounds to ensure consistency between features and to respect the minimalist visual narrative.
MIN: is not just eye-candy! As well as the rich image-based content, MIN: explores the legacy of minimalist design from the first mid-century wave through to today's resurgence of restraint in graphic design with a number of critical articles. Each text seeks to examine the minimalist movement's philosophy and theory through essays and in-depth interviews with design industry heavy-weights.
