They are building a fully operational printing studio, featuring a unique replica wooden common press at its heart. Why Thin Ice Press? In the winter of 1739, the River Ouse froze over. A York printer, Thomas Gent, wrapped some equipment in a blanket and headed out onto the ice. Despite some ominous creaking and cracking, he did a roaring trade printing souvenir broadsides, complete with the immortal words, ‘Printed on the frozen Ouse’.
