Graphic artist Anthony Burrill has created two works for the inaugural Harewood House Biennial, a six metre-high tower and an installation for the entrance hall of the manor house in Yorkshire. Bringing together traditional letterpress typefaces and modern-day craft techniques, Burrill’s ‘visual puzzles’ take inspiration from the geometry and symmetry of the 18th century Leeds building, confronting people’s perceptions about whether historic houses should remain pristine or be challenged by contemporary ideas.
In this video they profile Briefcase Type… a foundry offering a wide range of unique and original Czech fonts by authors, who may not wish to set up their own type foundry. It profiles itself as an independent type foundry. Briefcase digitizes original font designs, offer fonts by young authors and help publish older, previously unreleased fonts. The project is a logical extension of the Suitcase Type Foundry.
Maria Montes is all around amazing. She is a first class human, calligrapher, letterer, type designer, teacher and friend. I love that she wears her heart on her sleeve and she has an endless energy for her work and the creative community. Her talk called “What a Shitshow: The use of language as cultural identity” has just been released by the TDC team and I cant wait to watch it.
