Philippe Apeloig’s latest exhibition Using Type has just opened at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. An incredible body of typographic work is on display – logos, books, leaflets and animations, as well as Apeloig’s famous cultural posters.
Apeloig is noted for both his thorough and experimental use of letterforms. His strongly typographic approach is often playful. He cleverly makes the words speak for themselves, in many cases conveying them through his own specially designed typefaces.
Using Type pays homage to – and shows posters from Philippe Apeloig’s inspiring masters: Wim Crouwel, Wolfgang Weingart, and April Greimann – whose teaching and internships had a lasting effect on Apeloig’s work.
