London: Calligraphy and modernist typography: Paul Renner and Jan Tschichold

The modernist typography developed in Central Europe during the 1920s can be characterized by its rejection of the hand-made. But two of its principal figures – Jan Tschichold and Paul Renner (designer of the Futura typeface) – were both skilled in calligraphy. This talk will examine the connections.
